Boivin Logs Double-Double in Career Debut, Four Land in Double Digits to Beat SUNY Canton

CANTON, N.Y. (November 27, 2018) – Brianna Boivin totaled a double-double off the bench in her career debut, grabbing 11 rebounds and matching Samiaya Salley with a game-best 16 points, as the SUNY Delhi women's basketball team took down SUNY Canton, 66-54, in a Tuesday road contest. The Broncos evened their record to 3-3.

Boivin and Salley were two of four Broncos to finish in double digits in points. The team also held a crucial edge in the rebounding category, leading 58-48 on the boards. Sam Acuna scored 14 points and seven boards, as Kiera Holland tallied ten markers with seven rebounds. Diana Echols had six points with 18 rebounds, while Katelyn Lewis totaled four points with seven boards.

Both sides exchanged leads in the first quarter, where the game featured all five of its ties and lead changes. That all changed come 3:16 remaining in the period, when Holland's jump shot gave Delhi the lead back at 16-15 and prompted the Broncos to five more unanswered points to finish out the quarter. They continued their run in the second quarter, tallying 12 straight points to start it off, accounting for a total 19-0 run, to give them their largest lead at 33-15. They did not give up a Roos second-quarter basket until 3:42 left in the half, as the Broncos led, 39-24 at the half.

Delhi's big lead was not yet safe though, as the Roos opened the third quarter on 17-4 run that dwindled things down to a 43-41 Broncos lead with 4:58 to go in the period. Salley responded to Canton's comeback threat with a 3-pointer to spark an 11-0 run to close out the quarter, ahead 54-41. While the Roos opened the fourth scoring eight straight points, Delhi did not let them get any closer, finishing out the game on a 12-4 run.

The Broncos held a 48-28 lead in points in the paint, and forced the host Roos into 13 turnovers to lead, 19-14, in points off turnovers. Delhi shot 38.0 percent from the floor (30-for-79) and 3-of-21 from 3-point range, while Canton shot 27.8 percent (22-for-79) and 5-of-24, respectively.
