DELHI, N.Y. (December 1, 2018) – The SUNY Delhi women's basketball team picked up their second straight win at home Saturday, fending off a late rally to defeat Valley Forge, 80-76. Similar to their road victory at SUNY Canton on Tuesday, four Broncos finished in double digits in scoring. Samiaya Salley and Kiera Holland each had 20-point games, with Salley flirting with a triple-double with 23 points, nine rebounds and nine assists, and Holland netting 22 points. Diana Echols and Brianna Boivin both totaled double-doubles, with Echols recording 12 points and 15 boards, and Boivin ten points with ten rebounds.

Delhi held the lead from the start, and never relinquished it, albeit with just one tie at 2-2 early in the game. The Broncos entered halftime ahead, 38-28, and increased their lead to as much as 16 points in the fourth quarter, holding a 75-59 lead with 4:29 to play. The Patriots, however, responded ferociously with a 15-2 run that shrunk the Broncos' lead to 77-74 with 54 seconds left. But Malorie Rutledge would not let the game slip away from Delhi. The freshman was intentionally fouled on the ensuing possession, making one free throw to give the Broncos a two-possession lead at 78-74. UVF answered with a layup with 45 seconds left, and with the Patriots threatening to tie the game a couple seconds later, Rutledge came up with a clutch steal that Holland buried in the net for the final score of the contest.

The Broncos outshot Valley Forge from the field, 43.5 percent (30-for-69) to 35.7 percent (30-for-84), and brought down 57 rebounds to the Patriots' 41. Delhi made 3-of-12 triples on the day to UVF's 8-of-34, and converted on 17-of-27 free throws to the visitors' 8-of-9. Sam Acuna added seven points with seven rebounds, as Rutledge totaled five points.

Saturday's win not only has head coach Courtney Hoyt's team at 4-3, but it also marked their first game this season against an ACAA opponent. The Broncos have five more ACAA dates this season, including a road rematch with the Patriots on Feb. 2, as the ladies are off to a promising start to qualify for the conference tournament in late February.

Delhi now turns around on Sunday to complete a weekend homestand, welcoming Albany College of Pharmacy for a 1:00 p.m. matchup.
