Christy, McWilliams Lead Delhi, Tie for 12th to Close Out Webber Tri-Match

LAKE WALES, Fla. (February 28, 2019) – The SUNY Delhi men's golf team had a marked improvement in the second round of the Webber International Tri-Match, an improvement by 24 strokes to be exact. The Broncos shot a 315 (+27) on Thursday, with their 339 (+51) Wednesday total bringing them to a 654 (+78) final score for third place. The Broncos competed with the host Warriors and St. Thomas (Fla.) over the two-day competition at the Lake Wales Country Club.

Each Bronco improved from their first-day performance to take part in the team's rebound on Thursday's scoreboard. Daniel Christy again led the team with a 78 (+6), marking up his first-day total by three strokes with a 159 (+15) for 12th place. Alex Fisher shot a 78 (+6) as well, improving by seven strokes for a 163 (+19) to take 16th. Brandon Palmer clubbed an 81 (+9), going up by three strokes to take a 165 (+21) total for 19th place. Aaron Oliver earned Delhi's biggest improvement, going up 11 strokes for a 78 (+6) second-day score to total a 167 (+23) for 22nd on the board. Russell Herbert had an 85 (+13), jumping up by ten strokes for a 180 (+36) to finish 28th.

Competing on the individual leaderboard for Delhi, Jarrett McWilliams finished tied with Christy with a 159 (+15) for 12th, shooting a 76 (+4) for a seven-stroke improvement. Zach Barrett turned in an 82 (+10), just one stroke more than his first-day showing for a 163 (+19) for 16th. Jonathan Smolen shot an 83 (+11), going up four strokes for a 170 (+26) to take 24th. Jason Cyr went up by three strokes after carding an 84 (+12) for a 171 (+27) score for 25th place. Derek Firment shot an 86 (+14) for a one-stroke mark-up to total 173 (+29) and place 26th.

Head coach Dave Arehart's golfers have another month before continuing their spring season back upstate, as their next date is set for the McDaniel Invitational for Saturday, Mar. 30 to Sunday, Mar. 31.
