DELHI, N.Y. (April 25, 2018) – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced its Men's Lacrosse Independent All-Conference Team. Junior midfielder Malik Talbert (Valley Stream, NY / Valley Stream), senior midfielder Stephen Harten (Cortlandt Manor, NY / Lakeland) and sophomore defender Antonio Russo (Oneonta, NY / Oneonta) were all selected to the Second Team. SUNY Delhi just wrapped up its season with a 4-10 record, capped off on Monday with a 24-3 home win over Green Mountain.
Talbert played in all 14 games with ten starts. He finished the 2018 season as Delhi's leading scorer with 35 points on a team-best 25 goals with ten assists. The former transfer from Hilbert College scored at least three goals in five games this year, including a season-best four in Delhi's season finale against Green Mountain on Monday.
Harten, who played in 13 games with six starts, was new to the team this year after finishing a successful four-year career on the SUNY Delhi men's basketball team. He quickly developed into a solid short stick defensive midfielder, forcing 12 turnovers with 30 ground balls, and even scored a goal against SUNY Canton on March 17. Harten also had one assist, coming in the rematch with the Roos at the Bulldog Classic on April 15.
Russo finished his sophomore season as one of just a handful of Broncos to start all 14 games. The Oneonta, NY native caused ten turnovers and collected 12 ground balls. He was part of a defense that allowed just 9.6 goals per game.
