DELHI, N.Y. (June 8, 2018) – SUNY Delhi Director of Athletics Bob Backus has announced the appointment of Sam Miller as men's lacrosse head coach. Miller has served as the interim men's lacrosse coach since January 2017, compiling an 11-15 record in two seasons at the helm. The SUNY Brockport graduate will oversee the team's transition to NCAA Division III and its first year competing in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) for the 2018-19 season.
"As Director of Athletics, I am confident that Coach Miller will continue to guide the program at the NCAA Division III level," said Backus. "Miller has demonstrated over the past two seasons that he can successfully lead our program moving forward."

Miller came to Delhi after serving as a volunteer assistant coach at his alma mater, SUNY Brockport, for one season. His first Broncos team in 2017 posted a 7-5 record, followed by a 4-10 campaign in 2018.
In his first season, Coach Miller produced Connor Filiberto into becoming the team's first four-year All-American when the senior defender landed a spot on the NAIA All-American Second Team. Filiberto was also named the Association of Independent Institutions' (AII) Defensive Player of the Year.
As Brockport's defensive assistant in 2016, he helped guide the Golden Eagles to the SUNYAC Championship game for the first time in program history, finishing with a 12-4 record. The defense that season gave up a mere 6.88 goals per game and a program record 103 goals against total.
Prior to coaching at Brockport, Miller spent two seasons as a volunteer assistant coach at Randolph Macon College in Ashland, Va. from 2014 to 2015. The Yellow Jackets were 15-19 in those two seasons.
Miller graduated from Brockport in 2016 with a degree in Criminal Justice. He played two seasons for the Golden Eagles in 2012 and 2013, earning a SUNYAC playoff bid his senior year for only the second time in program history. He played his first two seasons at Salisbury University in Maryland from 2009 to 2010. Miller helped the Seagulls reach the 2010 NCAA Division III Championship game, as well as capturing the 2009 Capital Athletic Conference title.
