Men's Basketball Set to Embark for ACAA Tourney, Play Pine Manor in Semifinals Saturday

ALFRED, N.Y. (February 22, 2019) – The SUNY Delhi men's basketball team is ready to embark for their first-ever ACAA Tournament this weekend at Alfred State. The Broncos recently wrapped up a stellar 15-10 regular season under fourth-year head coach Zack Thomsen, earning the second seed for the conference tournament. They will play third-seed Pine Manor in the league semifinals on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. The winner will square off in the championship on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. against the finalist from the other semifinals game between one-seed Thomas More and fourth-seed and host Alfred State, slated for 5:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Against the ACAA

  • The Broncos went 3-1 this season against conference competition, beating Valley Forge (75-59) on Feb. 2, Pratt (81-60) on Feb. 8, and splitting the season series with Alfred State. Delhi won the first at home, 77-68, on Jan. 30, then the Pioneers took a narrow 74-73 last-minute thriller on Feb. 9.

  • Oct. 30, 2018: Oneonta basketball figure and former Milford High School head coach Andy Gravelin joins Zack Thomsen's coaching staff. STORY
  • Nov. 17, 2018: Broncos open season at home against Villa Maria. While they came up short in an 88-84 contest, it would be Delhi's lone home loss of the season, winning its next ten games in Floyd L. Maines Arena. STORY

  • Dec. 31, 2018: Standing at 5-8 after winning just two of their previous eight contests, the men began their second-half season surge beating MCLA, 86-62. The Broncos won ten of their final 12 games, including a perfect 7-for-7 in their 2019 home slate. STORY
  • Jan. 3, 2019: SUNY Delhi scores a season-high 110 points to defeat Penn College Tech, 110-72, in their first home game of 2019. The Broncos made an astounding 20 3-pointers on the day. STORY
  • Jan. 7, 2019: Thomsen defeats his former head coach David Pasiak when the Broncos beat NVU Lyndon by an 86-80 score. Thomsen played for Pasiak from 2006-08 at Onondaga Community College. STORY
  • Jan. 8, 2019: William Knight earns ACAA Player of the Week after making four threes for 18 points at MCLA, then hitting six triples for a season-high 22 points versus Penn College Tech. STORY
  • Jan. 11, 2019: Delhi routs Maine Fort Kent, 76-54, giving the Broncos their first-ever win against the Bengals in six tries over the four years competing against each other. STORY
  • Jan. 15, 2019: Broncos receive their second straight ACAA Player of the Week recipient in Jordan Fragale. The junior point guard made 7-of-10 from the floor for 19 points against NVU Lyndon, as well as seven assists. He then turned in a team-best 18 points and nine assists, along with six rebounds, versus Maine Fort Kent. STORY
  • Feb. 6, 2019: Delhi celebrates SUNY's Got Your Back Gold Night by downing Cazenovia, 70-61. Thomsen earned another win against an old OCC cohort in Wildcats head coach and former Lazers teammate Justin Stern. STORY
  • Feb. 16, 2019: Coach Thomsen's men finish their regular season at home, dropping a record 71 second-half points to defeat College St. Joseph, 105-71. Delhi trailed, 36-34, at halftime.  STORY | HIGHLIGHTS
  • Feb. 19, 2019: Payton Dean became the men's fourth and final ACAA Player of the Week after earning his tenth double-double of the season versus College of St. Joseph. He earned it in the first half alone with ten points and ten rebounds, as he finished with 20 points and 13 boards for his third 20-point game this season. STORY
