CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. (January 16, 2019) – In their first road matchup of 2019, the SUNY Delhi men's basketball team traveled to Wilson in a battle between teams each entering the contest on four-game winning streaks. While the Broncos and the Phoenix squared off evenly from the floor, the deciding factor came from Wilson's ability to produce from the free throw line. The hosts made all but their last free throw in a 30-for-31 showing from the line, as Delhi suffered its first defeat of the New Year, 91-79, to move to 9-9 on the year.

The Broncos held the advantage in many key categories, including field goals and rebounds. Aside from an 11-of-18 night from the charity stripe, they made 41.1 percent (30-for-73) and 8-of-30 on 3-pointers to the Phoenix's 39.1 percent (27-for-69) and 7-of-25, respectively, along with a 41-40 edge on the boards. Delhi even open the contest with a sizeable advantage, holding as much as a 14-point lead at 27-13 with 5:34 left in the first half. Following a Carlos Ithier three shortly after to put the Broncos up, 30-17, Wilson closed the half on a 23-2 run to enter intermission up, 36-32.

While the Broncos featured several solid scoring performances, led by Jordan Fragale's 15 points with eight assists, another deciding factor in the game was Wilson's Zachary Powell taking charge with a season-best 29 points and 12 rebounds. The Phoenix pressed on in the second half for 55 points, including 22-of-23 free throws, leaving Delhi little chance to tilt the game back in its favor.

Payton Dean turned in his sixth double-double of the season with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Ithier tied with Powell with a game-high four triples to account for 12 points. William Knight collected nine points, as did Mavenson Thernus, who grabbed seven rebounds. Jared Beach produced eight points with six rebounds, while Norman Wilson notched seven points and Saquan Goland charted six points to go with seven boards.

Head coach Zack Thomsen's team look to get back on the winning path when they travel to Brooklyn to face Pratt in their ACAA season opener on Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
