Volleyball Sweeps SUNY Cobleskill, Improves to 3-1 in Spring Campaign

DELHI, N.Y. (March 28, 2021) – The SUNY Delhi women's volleyball team got the best of both worlds in their doubleheader sweep of SUNY Cobleskill Sunday, posting a five-set win in the opening match, then a sweep in the latter. Delhi jumps to 3-1 on their spring season, and will host Cazenovia on Saturday, April 3 in another twin bill.

GAME ONE: DELHI 3, COBLESKILL 2 (25-11, 17-25, 25-15, 20-25, 15-6)

Each side exchanged set wins, starting with the Broncos in the first set with a commanding 25-11 victory. The Fighting Tigers took set two 25-15, but Delhi took command with a 25-15 win in set three. Although Cobleskill forced the deciding set with a 25-20 victory in game four, Delhi took the first two points in game five and never looked back. Ahead 5-3, the Broncos claimed the next seven points en route to the win. In their winning sets, the green and gold posted heavy hitting percentages of .333, .242, and .333, respectively.  

Lexi Taylor led Delhi with eight kills and added 11 digs. Marie Julian posted seven kills and a team-high 17 digs and four service aces. Taylor Tsatsis tied Julian with four aces to go with two kills, eight assists, and two block solos. Freshman Stephanie Burke tallied five kills, as Witchney Clersainville had four kills and four total blocks, including two solo. Chloe Elsenbeck and Gianna Placanica split setting duties, with Elsenbeck tallying 11 assists with three service aces and six digs, as Placanica delivered nine assists with seven digs.

GAME TWO: DELHI 3, COBLESKILL 0 (25-21, 25-19, 25-22)

The second match got off to a similar start as the first, with Delhi taking the first set by a 25-21 score and Cobleskill initially taking a hold of set two with an 8-0 lead. The Broncos mounted a stirring comeback rally, getting the set to tie at 11-11 and taking a 15-11 advantage. The Fighting Tigers regrouped after a timeout and tied things up at 15-15. The green and gold held on to a 19-17 lead when Marie Julian took serving responsibilities, a job she would hold on to, as Delhi took the next five points and eventually a 25-18 win. The Broncos began set three with a 10-5 lead, then converted a 12-9 edge to a substantial 18-10 advantage as Delhi completed the sweep with a 25-20 win.

Julian led the game with eight kills and three service aces, while ranking second on the team with 16 assists. Lexi Taylor charted seven kills and a team-best 17 digs. Chloe Elsenbeck had a game-high 15 assists with ten digs and two service aces, while Gianna Placanica delivered ten assists with three digs. Sage Renneisen charted five kills and six digs, while Shelby Nolan recorded 13 digs. Taylor Tsatsis and Stephanie Burke each finished with four kills, with Tsatsis tallying six digs.
