Volleyball Splits with SUNY Canton to Start Spring Season.

CANTON, N.Y. (March 21, 2021) - It marked 497 days since a SUNY Delhi women's volleyball match took place, but the Broncos made their return to competition Sunday with a doubleheader versus SUNY Canton. Delhi opened the day with a four-set win, but let a 2-1 second-game led slip away in a five-set defeat.

SUNY Delhi volleyball continues their spring slate next Sunday, Mar. 28 at SUNY Cobleskill. Per SUNY guidelines, spectators are not permitted at athletics contests at this time.

GAME 1: DELHI 3, CANTON 1 (25-22, 26-28, 25-9, 25-22)

The Broncos opened the fray battling in a close first two sets, taking the opening frame 25-22, then dropping a back-and-forth 28-26 second set. A vengeful Delhi squad took over in the third set, claiming 23 of the first 28 points en route to a 25-9 victory. The Roos held an early grip in the fourth set before the Broncos stormed back to clinch the match with a 25-22 win.

GAME 2: CANTON 3, DELHI 2 (25-16, 21-25, 9-25, 25-17, 15-9)

The Roos served up revenge to start game two, jumping out to a double-digit opening set advantage that led to a 25-16 victory. The Broncos returned the favor in set two, winning the first five points and never looking back for a 25-21 win. Just like in the previous game's third set, Delhi strung together plenty of scoring rallies for a 25-9 decision. Errors plagued the Broncos in set four, opening the door for Canton to force a tiebreaking set with a 25-17 decision. Canton took a 9-6 lead in set five before Broncos head coach Beau Bracchy called a timeout. Delhi responded with three of the next four points, but the Roos claimed the next five points to seal the comeback win.
