ALBANY, N.Y. (February 4, 2020) – The SUNY Delhi women's basketball team overcame a 15-point first quarter deficit to give Albany College of Pharmacy some trouble in a road contest Tuesday evening. The Broncos used a dominating third quarter to pull in front, only to have an early seven-point fourth quarter lead be met with 22 fourth-quarter points by the Panthers in a 68-61 defeat.

Sam Acuna led Delhi with 16 points, making four 3-pointers, while tallying eight rebounds and four assists. Kiera Holland connected for 15 points and totaling eight rebounds with six assists. Camryn McDonald and Carissa Crandall each netted eight points, with McDonald grabbing six rebounds and Crandall netting two triples. Diana Echols pulled in a game-best 11 rebounds, adding four points, as Brenna Gioffe collected seven points and six boards.

The Broncos led, 8-6, in the early going, but fell victim to an ensuing 17-0 Panthers run that put them behind, 23-8, with just over a minute to go in the first. Delhi kept its cool, regaining control in a moderately-scoring second quarter to nearly cut its deficit in half at intermission, 32-24, then kicked into another gear with a 23-point third-quarter to enter the fourth up, 47-46. The women worked their lead up to 56-50 to begin the final period, but an 11-1 ACPHS run found them back behind, 61-57, with over two minutes remaining. The Broncos made just one field goal the rest of the way.

The game also proved to be close in the final stat line. Delhi finished shooting 31.0 percent (22-for-71), making 8-of-29 threes and 9-of-17 free throws, while the Panthers logged in at 37.1 percent (23-of-62), 7-of-23, and 15-of-28, respectively. ACPHS narrowly held a 51-49 lead in rebounds, while the Broncos had a 22-12 lead in points in the paint.

Head coach Lauren McRoberts' squad plays their home season finale this Thursday, playing Norwich at 5:30 p.m. as part of Senior Night. The Broncos will honor graduating student-athletes Sam Acuna, Diana Echols, Katelyn Lewis, Samiaya Salley, and team manager Antonia Buon.
