Delhi Suffers First Defeat at Marywood

SCRANTON, Pa. (September 16, 2019) – It took six matches, but the SUNY Delhi women's volleyball experienced defeat for the first time this season on the road at Marywood Monday night, as the Broncos fell to the Pacers in three sets. Delhi was defeated by 25-15, 25-23, and 25-14 set scores to move to 5-1 on the season.

Marywood jumped out ahead in the first set for a comfortable opening win. The Broncos answered in the second set, starting out with a 6-1 lead. But the hosts worked their way back in to the game, leading to a 16-16 tie. Delhi got back out in front, 20-17, but the Pacers again came back to knot things up at 22-22. The Broncos got the next point, but Marywood earned the last three to snag the win. The Broncos again started off strong in the third set with a 7-1 lead. But six straight points from the Pacers tied things up, with the home team going on to take 18 of the next 25 points for the sweep.

Witchney Clersainville led the Broncos with 10 kills and three total blocks, including two solo. Lexi Taylor totaled five kills, while Chloe Elsenbeck and Haylee Lefebvre each had three kills. Erica Prindle led the team with 17 assists and second with ten digs, as Shelby Nolan led with 14 digs. Elsenbeck added eight digs.

The Broncos were hampered with just a .045 kill percentage, administering 25 kills and 21 errors on 89 attempts, while the Pacers posted a .233 percentage, posting 33 kills and 11 digs on 90 attempts.

Head coach Beau Bracchy's team looks to return to the win column with a road match at Morrisville State on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. Delhi then returns home to host a tri-match this Sunday versus Farmingdale State and MCLA, starting at 11:00 a.m.
