Banful Qualifies for 60H Finals, Two School Records Broken on Day One of AARTFC Championships

Humphrey Banful clears a hurdle in the beginning stretch of the 60-meter hurdles.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (March 6, 2020) – Sophomore Humphrey Banful landed a 60-meter hurdles finals spot at the AARTFC Indoor Championships with a heat-leading time of 8.48, earning one of several dominating SUNY Delhi performances on the opening day of the championships at Nazareth College. Two school records also dropped Friday, with distance runner Abshir Yerow setting a new school record in the 5,000 meters at 14:44.91 for second place, while the distance medley relay women's team of Katerina Salcedo, Arielle Moheimani, Sophie Stewart, and Ashley Magnifico earned a time of 13:06.47 for tenth place.

Jumper Alex Irving set a new lifetime best in the triple jump at 14.52m for third place. The men's distance medley relay team of Seth Bywater, Sean Andrews, Michael Moran, and Aidan Cutting earned a new season best at 10:36.44 for tenth place. Freshman Chris Filatov cleared 4.28m for 13th place as he attempted a new career high.

"We had a great first day at our second AARTFC Indoor Championships," said head coach Robb Munro. Two school records capped off some great careers for some of our athletes. Alex jumped a PR again, making it his sixth PR in his seven meets. And Humphrey advanced to the finals. All our athletes performed terrifically and we wan't wait to get back for another day!"

The day two slate of the AARTFC Indoor Championships features Salcedo running the 800 meters, Madeeah Oranchak and Glenn Butler in the long jump, Diana Echols in the weight throw, Butler and Wylie Troy in the high jump, and Banful in the 60-meter hurdles finals.
