DELHI, N.Y. (September 21, 2019) – Despite overcoming a 1-0 halftime deficit to lead, 2-1, in the second-half Saturday, the SUNY Delhi women's soccer team was forced to go to overtime for the fourth time this year when visiting NAC-foe Maine Maritime tied the match with less than nine minutes to go in regulation. And for the second straight match, the Broncos were defeated with a goal in double overtime in a 3-2 decision. Delhi now stands at 4-2-1 overall and a split 1-1 mark in NAC play.

A few red cards from their previous match, a 3-2 double-overtime defeat to Morrisville State on Wednesday, forced the Broncos to play without several key players. It did, however, open the door for a number of Broncos to step up when the team needed a boost against the NAC's preseason favorites. The Mariners struck first at 12:43 on an Eryn Doiron goal. Delhi settled in, as goalkeeper Jessica Shultis logged four saves in the opening period to keep the deficit at one at intermission. Keeper Rachael Scoones would step in as goalie from the second half onwards for Delhi. The two and their defense held off a MMA squad that would finish with a 20-11 lead in shots and 13-8 in shots on goal.

The Broncos began their second-half attack at 62:08, when Sydney Tuysuzian's corner kick meet the leg of Alexa DuBois for the equalizer. Freshman Reanen Goodspeed stepped up next for Delhi, as her second goal of the season put Delhi up, 2-1, at 70:39. But Maine Maritime would tilt the game back even just over ten minutes later when Laura Blue's cross from the right side found an open Kelsey Bern to tilt the match back even at 81:11. The game met its conclusion in the second overtime session at 104:51, when Blue speeded past a defender down the left side and connected for the game-winner.

Scoones finished with six saves in nearly 60 minutes in goal to stand at 1-2 on the season. DuBois added to her scoring numbers with 18 points on eight goals and two assists, good for second on the team in both points and goals. The Broncos are 1-2-1 this year in overtime contests, with all of them going as far as double overtime.

Saturday also marked the second of a five-match home stand for the ladies, as head coach Lauren Mackay's team looks to bounce back on Tuesday versus Lycoming at 4:00 p.m. They then welcome NAC-opponent SUNY Canton on Saturday, Sept. 28, followed by Albany College of Pharmacy on Wednesday, Oct. 2.
