Delhi Swim Team is Back in Action for the 2022-23 Season

SUNY Delhi's men's and women's 2022-23 swim season is underway. With four meets under their belt, the Broncos have won four total head-to-head matchups and have had some great individual efforts.

The Lady Broncos have four swimmers on the team led by sophomore Jessica Roon and freshman Skyler Nowalk. Roon, one of two returning swimmers, has already had a solid season in her main events. She usually competes in the 50-Yard Freestyle, 100-Yard Backstroke and 100-Yard Breaststroke with multiple first-place finishes this year. Junior Kitty Messina is the other returning swimmer and she specializes in breaststroke and freestyle events.

Two freshman newcomers, Skyler Nowalk and Molly Stevens join the returning squad for the Broncos. Nowalk has been a bright spot for the Green and Gold, playing a big part in their last win over Herkimer as she won the 200-Yard Freestyle, 50-Yard Freestyle and 100-Yard Freestyle.

The men's swim team has four new swimmers who join a group of three returning Broncos. The top returning swimmers include sophomore Travis Belanger and senior Jonathon Brathwaite. Belanger has gotten off to a great start in his season, with two individual race wins in their last outing, winning the 50 Yard Freestyle and the 50 Yard Individual Medley. While Brathwaite has been focusing on freestyle and breaststroke events as well as competing in team relays.

Among the four newcomers, freshman Aiden Record and Steven Castronovo have stood out. Both swimmers have been a big part of the Bronco’s wins and have continually improved throughout the season. They have made their mark individually as well as playing big roles in team relays. Record has won multiple individual events as he specializes in the 100 Yard Freestyle. As Castronovo is always at the front of the pack as he competes in the 100 Yard Breaststroke and Freestyle.

"We’re excited about swimming at Utica tomorrow to wrap up the fall semester. We’ll come back a little early in the spring semester for a couple of home meets to get dialed in before the conference meet," said head coach Sam Miller, "We’ve been working hard to overcome some obstacles in and out of the pool and are looking forward to continuing to improve and get better each day!"

The Bronco's big upcoming meets include two home races and the NAC Championships. They host William Paterson University on January 17th and Wells College on January 21st. Then they shift their focus to the North Atlantic Conference Championship on February 4th and 5th.
