DELHI, N.Y. (March 24, 2019) – A doubles sweep and early wins at one and two singles was enough to carry the SUNY Delhi men's tennis team to a 5-4 home win Sunday afternoon versus Elmira. The victory gave the Broncos their second straight win, as they will carry a 2-1 into their NAC season that begins this Saturday at Thomas.

While Delhi took all three doubles matches like in their victory last Sunday against College of St. Elizabeth, the Broncos' one and two tandems earned their wins in comeback fashion. The top team of Marcos Andrino/Laif Lundstrom and the two pairing of Payton Dean/Christopher both trailed, 4-3, and each took the next five games for 8-4 wins. While Elmira tried some comeback magic of its own down 7-4 at three doubles, the tandem of Jake Robinson/Bailey Lane completed the sweep with an 8-6 victory.

The Broncos clinched the team win three matches into singles, with Balogh first defeating Zackarie Stedge at two, 6-0 and 6-3, then Lundstrom beating Stephen Gervase at one, 6-2 and 6-1, for a 5-1 Delhi advantage. Each of those early wins proved vital, as the Soaring Eagles captured the remaining four singles contests. Elmira won in straight sets in the third, fourth and fifth spots. Michael Zerniak gave Ravi Chauma a three-set run at five. After dropping the first set, 6-4, Zerniak came back to win the next frame, 6-2, but fell, 10-5, in the tiebreaker.

Delhi now embarks on a three-match road trip to seek its first win away from home. It all starts Saturday with their NAC season debut at Thomas at 10:00 a.m., followed by Sage on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. and Utica Wednesday, April 3 at 4:00 p.m.
