Broncos Start Season Strong with 20-5 Win at Randolph

LYNCHBURG, Va. (February 24, 2020) – The SUNY Delhi men's lacrosse team opened their 2020 season with overwhelming force Monday evening, opening their three-game Virginia road trip beating Randolph by a 20-5 score. Newcomer Michael Kelly put up seven goals and two assists in his Broncos debut, while fellow freshman Aidan Costello posted four goals with one assist. Delhi continues on its trip Wednesday at Randolph Macon.

The Broncos racked up the first 14 goals of the contest, with a late Wildcats goal in the second quarter serving as Randolph's only response for a 14-1 Delhi lead at halftime. Kelly scored all of his seven goals in the first half, including one of the Broncos' three man-up goals on the evening. Mark Frascello and Costello accounted for the remaining two. Sophomore goalie Travis Anderson presided over the action for its entirety, totaling ten saves.

The Broncos were successful on all 20 clear attempts, and won 18-of-28 faceoffs. Sophomore Nick Dower won all 11 of his midfield battles, as freshman Nick Scarpa won six and Sean Tillman tallying one. Delhi outshot Randolph by a wide 54-20 margin.

King White and Ross Cange totaled two goals, including White connecting for a man-down goal to begin Delhi's second-half scoring. Brian Conti, Parker Adkins, Michael Tullo, and Jack McClurg each netted one goal. McClurg led the Broncos with five assists for six points. Frascello and Adkins each had one assist.

Head coach Sam Miller's team heads up the road to Ashland, Va. to play the Randolph Macon Yellow Jackets Wednesday at 4:00 p.m., then rounds out their southern trip on Friday to play the Virginia Wesleyan Marlins at 5:00 p.m.
