Broncos Finish Regular Season at Alfred State; Pioneers Takes DH

May 2, 2024 --- Alfred, NY

SUNY Delhi softball concluded their regular season with a non-conference road trip for a doubleheader with Alfred State.

GAME 1: DELHI (1) vs ALFRED STATE (10) --- 5 innings:

HOW IT HAPPENED:

It was two big innings for the home Pioneers that would propel them to a 5-inning victory in the first game.

Delhi's Sidney Cooper would lead the game off with a single but that would be it for the Broncos. Alfred State would score four runs in the the home part of the first inning.

A Kaitlyn Stagno single would begin the second inning for the visiting Broncos, but again, this would be all Delhi would manage. The 6-run second inning for the home team would prove too much to overcome.

Though Delhi would manage to put runners on base in each of the next three innings, and keep Alfred State off the scoreboard, a lone, 5th inning RBI single by Cooper would be the consolation run for Delhi.

NOTES:

Danielle Seymour (7-12) took the ball for 4 innings.

Four Delhi batters combined for the teams 5 hits.

Cayla Moroni walked and scored for Delhi.

GAME 2: DELHI (5) vs. ALFRED STATE (10):

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Delhi bats were quiet through the first five innings; collecting only 4 hits. Alfred State was able to tally runs in the first three innings to build a 6-0 lead that lasted into the sixth inning.

The Broncos were able to cut the lead in half with a 3-run top of the inning. Carolina Watson would leadoff with a single and Sarah Ostrander would double in the next at-bat. A sac fly would score Watson. Ostrander would score on an error and an RBI single by Cooper would score the third run for the visitors.

The Pioneers would have a strong inning of their own to push the lead back up to 10-3.

The Broncos responded with 2 runs in the 7th but ran out of outs before they could get any closer.

NOTES:

Angelina Dickel (3-13) pitched efficiently through the 6-inning loss.

Watson went 3-4 and scored twice. Ostrander also scored twice.

Dickel and Riley Martin account for two RBIs each.

Kayla Beers finishes her Bronco career with 129 hits; setting the program mark.
