Broncos Face Mustangs; Mustangs Take Two

The calendar turned to May as SUNY Delhi softball travelled to Morrisville to complete their rescheduled series against the SUNY Morrisville Mustangs.


GAME 1: DELHI (2) vs. MORRISVILLE (5):


HOW IT HAPPENED:

Delhi would start the scoring off in the top of the first inning. Kayla Beers would single in the inning and eventually score on an RBI groundout by Kaitlyn Stagno.

Morrisville would be retired in the home half but would bounce back to take a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the second inning. The Mustangs would extend their lead with solo runs in the third and fourth innings.

Beers would score again from a Cayla Moroni single in the top of the fifth for the visiting Broncos. This would be as close as Delhi would get as Morrisville took the lead to 3 runs with a run of their own in the bottom of the fifth inning.


NOTES:

Danielle Seymour (7-10) pitched the full 6 innings for the Broncos.

Hannah Caughey would go 3-4 with three singles. Kayleigh Allen would draw two walks. Carolina Watson doubled.

Beers accounted for two hits and two runs. 


GAME 2: DELHI (8) vs. MORRISVILLE (11):


HOW IT HAPPENED:

If you wanted runs, you got runs as the teams combined for 13 runs scored in the first two innings. The Broncos would take a 4-0 lead after the first half frame with the Mustangs grabbing three runs in the home half of the inning.

The second inning saw the teams split the 6 total runs scored. Watson, Moroni and Seymour would each record RBIs in the inning. The Broncos would lead 7-6 the next three innings.

Delhi would make it 8-6 in the top of the 6th inning. Morrisville would not go down without a fight, using a 5-hit, 5-run home at-bat to push the game to the final score.


NOTES:

Angelina Dickel would open the game in the circle for Delhi before giving way to Seymour (7-11), who would get the pitching decision.

Caughey singled and doubled. Beers walked and scored twice each. Watson and Seymour tallied two RBIs each.

Four different Broncos scored two runs apiece.

The Broncos will conclude their regular season with a road doubleheader (5/2) with Alfred State. Games begin at 3PM and 5PM.
