Broncos Have Another Great Day on the Track and in the Field

Ithaca, NY - The Bronco Track and Field team were back on the road this weekend for a full team trip to Ithaca College for the Ithaca Bomber Invitational.  It was another strong day of performances for the team that included one school record being tied.

On the women's side, the top individual finish came from Zoe Rodi who placed fourth overall in the 400 meters with a time of 1:00.54.  Rodi then teamed up with Meg Cruz, Mary Bryant and Evelyn Eastman to place fourth in the 4x400 meter relay.  Senior Marissa Lombardi placed fifth in the 5,000 meter race with a time of 22:02.22 while Kim Dean jumped 4.90 meters (16' 1") in the long jump which was also good for a fifth place overall finish.

On the men's side there were four event wins by the Broncos.  Luke Foster had a big break through with a 6.74 meter (22'1.5") leap in the long jump to win the event overall while senior John Amenta won the 3,000 meter event with a time of 8:52.58.  With a lap to go it looked like Amenta was in for a battle, but his 29 second final circuit left his nearest competitor five seconds behind him.

The big event of the day for the men's team was anything with a 200 in it.  In the men's 200 meter dash, senior Joshua Jeffes led a trio of Broncos with his first place finish in 21.92 seconds.  Freshman Dayzin Lagare was second overall in 22.02 and Cristhian Cuevas placed fourth in the event in 22.71.  Jeffes, Lagare and Ceuvas then teamsed up with Ryan Swinea to win the 4x200 meter relay in a time of 1:29.43.  Perhaps the most impressive performance of the day came from that race where Jeffes split 21.28 seconds in the anchor leg.

The final highlight from the trip came from senior Chris Filatov.  Filatov, competing in the pole vault, cleared the bar at 4.45 meters (14'7.25") to place third overall.  In doing so, he tied the school record set back in 2012 by Andre Adkins.

The next few weekends will be light for the Broncos as part of the squad will travel to Boston this coming weekend and another part will train through to prepare for a meet at Cornell University in two weeks.
