Broncos Win Six Events, Break Records at Utica Invitational

Utica, NY - The Delhi Track and Field team traveled back to Utica University for another competition at the Blue and Orange Invitational.  The team had another record setting day!

Senior Joshua Jeffes continued to make waves in his final campaign as a Bronco.  In his first event, he won the 400 meters by over two seconds, setting a new facility and school record.  His time of 48.22 took more than a quarter of a second off of his previous record and ranks him number three in the nation for the event.  His second event was more of the same.  In the 200 meters, he was more than a full second ahead of all competitors, running 21.81 seconds to break his own facility and school record by a full tenth of a second.  In the 200 meters, he currently ranks fifth in the nation.

The Broncos picked up some other first place finishes on the men's side from Dayzin Lagare and Aidan Steele.  Lagare won the 60 meter dash in a time of 7.02 seconds.  Steele won the long jump, leaping 6.47 meters.

Teammate Luke Foster also had a good day in the long jump taking second in 6.30 meters.  Hurdler Joey Ciufo placed second in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.72.  In the distance running world, senior John Amenta added a runner up finish in the 5,000 meters with a time of 15:27.24.  He also anchored the Delhi distance Medley Relay team of Sam Lees, Nyere Hill, Cheo Munford to a third place finish with a 4:29 split over 1600 meters.

Two other top finishes came from Cristhian Cuevas who took third in the 200 meters (22.94) and the James Olson who took third in the men's shot put (13.41m).

On the women's side, the best performance came from sophomore Zoe Rodi.  Rodi ran a new collegiate best in the 400 meter dash of 60.28 seconds for the overall win.  Her time will punch her ticket to the All Atlantic Region Track and Field Championships in March.  Rodi backed up the great performance with another lifetime best placing third in the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.91.  As if that wasn't enough, Rodi finished the meet by teaming up with Meg Cruz, Mary Bryant and Evelyn Eastman to win the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 4:22.49.  Thrower Kitty Messina was the other bright spot for the women, placing fourth in the weight throw with a toss of 13.20 meters.

The team will now prepare to head to Ithaca College next weekend for the Bomber Invitational.
