Record Setting Day for Track and Field

Utica, NY - The Delhi Track and Field team had a great day at the Utica College Holiday Invite filled with school, facility and personal records.

Leading the days highlights was once again senior Joshua Jeffes.  Jeffes won the 400 meters with a new school and facility record of 48.50 seconds that ranks him fourth in the Nation for NCAA Division III.  Jeffes then won the 200 meters with a time of 21.92 seconds, another school record, which ranks him second nationally.  Jeffes then anchored the winning men's 4x400 meter relay team with Christian Cuevas, Ryan Swinea and Lorenzo Castro.

Freshman Dayzin Legare won the men's 60 meter dash with a time of 6.96 seconds to enter the programs all-time top 5 in his first college meet.  Legare also placed fifth overall in the 200 meters with an impressive time of 22.26 seconds.

Other strong performances for the team came from Senior John Amenta who ran 4:27.92 to place third in the men's mile, closing his last 200 meters in 30 seconds.  Fellow senior Joey Ciufo also added a third place finish in the 60 meter hurdles in 8.82 seconds. Cristhian Cuevas placed third in the long jump with a leap of 6.66 meters.

On the women's side there were a number of top three finishes.  Niomi Rogers placed second overall in the long jump with a new lifetime best of 5.18 meters and third overall in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 9.64 seconds.  In the 60 meter dash, Kadie-Ann Whyte and Zoe Rodi placed second and third with respective times of 8.05 and 8.09 seconds.  Mary Bryant finished second in the 800 meters with a time of 2:33.71.  The women's 4x400 relay team placed second as well with Rodi and Bryant being joined by Evie Eastman and Meg Cruz. Finally, Kitty Messina threw a huge lifetime best of 14.03 meters for a third place finish in the wieght throw and became only the second woman over the 14 meter mark in program history.

The track and field team now starts their winter recess and will return to competition on Friday January 12th.
