Jeffes Opens Season With New School Record

New York, NY - The SUNY Delhi Track& Field Programs headed to New York City over the weekend to open their season at the historic Armory Track facility.  The highlight of the day came from Senior Josh Jeffes who lowered his own school record in the 300 meters.

Jeffes, who already held the program record in the event, ran 34.24 seconds to win his heat by a large margin and place third overall.  The only two athletes to record a faster time were from Princeton University running out of a separate heat.  Jeffes old mark was 34.54 seconds run last year.

Freshman Jaden Rowe posted a big performance in his first college meet, running 7.07 seconds in the 60 meter dash, a time that ranks inside the schools all-time top 10 performances in that event.  Senior Joey Ciufo ran 8.77 for the 60 meter hurdles to qualify for the final where he ran 8.78 to finish in eighth place overall.  James Olson started his Delhi career with a great throw in the weight with a toss of 13.92 meters to place seventh in the meet and enter the Delhiall-time top 10 list.

The men's 4x400 meter relay team finished the meet placing third overall in 3:24.81.  Leading the way was Jeffes splitting 47.72 on the anchor leg and Lorenzo Castro in 49.87.

For the women, Niomi Rogers led the way with a 9.65 second performance in the 60 meter hurdles.  Rogers advanced to the final where she placed sixth overall in the meet.  Kadie-Ann Whyte and Zoe Rodi placed 11th and 12th overall in the 60 meter dash, running 8.13 and 8.16 seconds respectively.  In the 600 meters Mary Bryant and Evelyn Eastman placed ninth and 12th overall running 1:48.27 and 1:51.15 respectively.

The team will get one more competition in before the winter recess when they head to Utica College for the Holiday Classic Saturday.
