Broncos Host Badgers, Split Pair

April 20, 2024 --- Oneonta, NY (Cooperstown All-Star Village)


The Broncos again hosted the Badgers from Johnson for a morning/afternoon doubleheader. Game 1 would be a NAC competition. Game 2 would be non-conference.


GAME 1: DELHI (11) vs. VTSU-JOHNSON (9):


HOW IT HAPPENED:


VTSU-Johnson would take an early lead 1-0. The Bronco hitters exploded for 9 runs in the bottom of the first. The home team sent 13 batters to the plate, collecting 6 hits. Sidney Cooper and Camila Fuentes would each go 2-2 in the inning.

Broncos' pitcher Danielle Seymour would strand the leadoff runner in the 2nd. It would be another strong home half of the second; extending the lead to 11-1.

The score would remain 11-1 through three innings. The Badgers would load the bases in the 4th with no outs. Seymour would work to two outs but eventually Johnson would be able to plate 5 runs to cut down the lead; 11-6. The score would remain 11-6 up to the sixth.

The visitors chipped away at their deficit in the top of the 6th to make the game 11-8. The Broncos weren't able to extend in the home half.

The bases would again be loaded by the Badgers in the top of the 7th but they wouldn't be able to overcome the lead. The game concludes 11-9.


NOTES:

Seymour (4-8) took the ball and pitched the complete game for Delhi. She would score twice for the Broncos.

Fuentes (triple), Kayleigh Allen and Carolina Watson (doubles) tallied the extra-base hits.

The teams combined for 27 hits.


GAME 2: DELHI (6) vs. VTSU-JOHNSON (10):


HOW IT HAPPENED:

The visitors would take an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning and would hold it through the home half.

Johnson would push their lead to 6-0 after their second at-bat. Delhi wouldn't be able to cut into the lead.

The Badgers were able to jump out on top again and grabbed 3 more runs in the top of the third inning. The home team would get on the scoreboard, using 5 hits to score 5 runs. Carolina Watson's 2-run double would make it 9-5 after three.

The Broncos would work themselves out of a jam in the fourth. Johnson would get two runners in scoring position. Seymour, coming on in relief, would escape the inning with no runs allowed. The score would remain 9-5 in favor of the visitors to the 6th inning.

A sacrifice fly for Johnson took the lead up to 10-5. Delhi would get it to 10-6 but couldn't get out of trailing early. 


NOTES:

Kayleigh Allen (0-1) took the ball in her first career start in the circle. Seymour would relieve Allen in the 4th inning.

Cayla Moroni and Sidney Cooper each singled and doubled in the game. 

Beers and Watson added two RBIs each.

 

WHAT'S NEXT:

Delhi softball (7-19, 3-6) will make the trip to Morrisville with a Sunday doubleheader. Games will begin at noon and 2PM.
