Broncos Head To Canton for Weekend; Fall Twice Friday

CANTON, NY (April 29, 2022) --- SUNY Delhi softball continued their NAC schedule and made the trip to SUNY Canton for three games over Friday and Saturday. The Canton Roos bats propelled the home team to a Friday afternoon sweep; taking the games 13-5 and 9-1.

GAME 1:

SUNY Delhi 5 vs. SUNY Canton 13

Canton got off to a hot start, scoring 2 runs in the bottom of the 1st and 6 runs in the 2nd. Delhi was about to cut the lead to 2-1 in the top of the 2nd. Jessica Kwasnik singled to start the inning and would score on a Katelynn Rose single. The Broncos would go on to get within 3 runs by scoring in the 3rd, 4th and 5th inning. Mel Papuli doubled in the 3rd and scored on Kwasnik's second single of the afternoon. Rose and Jaylynn Sheppard each single and scored in the 4th. Papuli would score the final run for Delhi on an RBI-ground out by Edasia Armstrong. The Roos would finish the 6th inning off by getting 4 runs across home plate and ending the game early.

Kwasnik, Rose and Sheppard had 2-hits each in game 1. Rachael Scoones also singled for the Broncos.

Papuli (3-7) and Daneille Seymour combined in the circle for Delhi.

GAME 2:

SUNY Delhi 1 vs. SUNY Canton 9

Two big innings spelled the end for the Broncos in game 2. The Broncos would take a lead in the top of the 1st. Seymour singled to start the game. Kayla Beers gave herself up and laid down a sacrifice bunt to put Seymour on 2nd. Papuli would single to put runners on first and third. Seymour scored on a sacrifice fly by Kwasnik. Unfortunately, the Roos would take the lead right back with a 3-run bottom half. Delhi's Armstrong would single to begin the second inning but that would prove to be the last base hit on the afternoon for the Broncos.
