Delhi/Cazenovia Play Rare Tripleheader; Broncos Take All 3 Games

CAZENOVIA, NY (April 15, 2022) -- The SUNY Delhi softball team ventured to Cazenovia to play the Wildcats in a rare, college tripleheader. The Broncos were able to take all 3 games on the afternoon: 13-7, 10-7, and 5-1.

SUNY DELHI 13 vs. CAZENOVIA 7

In the first game of the afternoon, Delhi was able to jump out to the early 1-0 lead in the top of the first on a RBI groundout by Roselyn Monks. Caz was able to tie it up in the bottom of the frame. The Broncos went 3-up, 3-down the next two innings. The Wildcats took the lead with a 2-run third. The top of the 4th saw Delhi temporarily tie it up before yielding a 4-run lead back to Cazenovia in the bottom of the 4th. In the 5th, the Broncos' Mel Papuli singled and would score on a Jessica Kwasnik double two batters later.

Delhi softball trailed by 3 runs going into their final at-bat but were able to bust out the rally caps. Monks started the inning off with a single. Kayla Beers would double in the next at-bat, scoring Monks. Papuli would reach on an error and advance to 2nd; moving Beers to third. Kitty Messina singled the tying runs in. Cazenovia would get a runner to 2nd in the bottom of the 7th but would be left stranded.

In a day where the teams would play 3 games, it was fitting the first game would be decided in extra innings. The Broncos would push 6 runs across the top half of the 8th and would retire the home team in the bottom to get the game 1 win.

Jessica Kwasnik had a day at the plate, going 5-5, with 3 singles/2 doubles, knocking in 3 runs and scoring twice. Caitlyn Gallagher collected two singles as well.

Mel Papuli went all 8 innings in the opener to get the win.

Mikaela Duran would get hit by a pitch, Monks would walk, and a Beers 2-run single brought in the Broncos' runs. Delhi would get two more runs in the fourth inning to extend their lead. Papuli would double to start off the 7th inning and score off a Messina single. Delhi would load the bases with singles by Kwasnik and Danielle Seymour. Rose knocked in Messina for their 10th run.

The game remained 2-1 until the 5th inning. Delhi would load the bases and Kwasnik continued the hot afternoon, doubling in the final two runs for the Broncos. Papuli would single in Beers in the 7th inning to provide some insurance that the Broncos wouldn't end up needing.
