Broncos in Florida: Drop Game #6 to Alfred State

FORT MYERS, FL (March 14, 2022) -- After a day of rest, the Broncos were back on the field against Alfred State. In their 6th game of the trip, it was close through 4 innings but a 6-run fifth doomed Delhi to a 9-4 defeat.

Alfred St. (9) vs. Delhi (4):

Delhi fell behind in the bottom of the 3rd inning but Alfred State's lead was short-lived as the Broncos were able to score two in the top half of the 4th. A leadoff double by Mary Zeman was followed by a ball put in play by Kayla Beers. Beers forced an error by the Pioneers; allowing Zeman to score from 2nd. Another Pioneer error from a ball off the bat of Rhianna Iglesias got Beers home to make the score 2-1 in favor of Delhi. This was the last lead in the game for Delhi though. A 2-run bottom of the 4th with the 6 runs scored in the 5th were too much for the Broncos to overcome. The Broncos made an attempt at a 7th inning rally with hits by Jessica Kwasnik, Kitty Messina and Rachael "Schooner" Scoones before a Zeman single knocked in two more runs. That was all the closer they would get as the Pioneer's got the next batter to end the game on a fielder's choice.

Danielle Seymour (0-1) started in the chalk circle for Delhi but couldn't make it out of that 6-run fifth inning. Katelynn Rose finished the game in relief. Brittany Fisher picked up the win for the Pioneers, going all 7 innings.

Catcher Shelby Crahan went 2-3 with two singles as the only other Bronco with two hits (Zeman).

SUNY Delhi Broncos' softball concludes their trip to Florida with two games on March 15: Wilmington (Ohio) at 9AM and Wisconsin-Superior at 11AM.
