Softball Heads to Florida, Plays Against Rockford in 1st Game

FORT MYERS, FL (March 11, 2022) - It is the most wonderful time of the year in softball-land. The Broncos have made the trip to Florida where they'll play 8 games against 8 different schools over the next 5 days. They opened the season with a doubleheader against Rockford University (Illinois) and Kenyon College (Ohio), eventually dropping both games.

GAME 1:

ROCKFORD (14) vs. DELHI (6): The Broncos started off the first game strongly, grabbing 3 runs in the top of the first inning. Getting the first three runners on-base, Katelynn Rose started the scoring off with a two-run single to center, scoring Kayla Beers and Mary Zeman. Jessica Kwasnik registered a sac fly which allowed Roselyn Monks to score.

Katelynn Rose got the ball for Delhi to start the season against Rockford. Unfortunately, the lead was short lived as Rockford was able to get 4 runs across in the bottom half of the first inning.

But not to be out done, the Broncos re-took the lead in the top of the 2nd with RBI singles from Monks and Rose. Those were the last runs for the Broncos until the 6th inning.

The Regents of Rockford scored one in the 2nd to tie and two more in the 3rd to take the lead for good. After scoring 5 runs over the next two innings, the Regents scored the final two runs in the bottom of the 6th to end the game early. Delhi got their 6th run in the top of the last frame.

Rose (0-1) took the loss on the mound (10 runs allowed over 4 innings pitched) but accounted for 3 RBIs and 2 hits. Danielle Seymour also saw time on the rubber, going 1.2 innings.
