BRONCOS OF THE WEEK (3/30): Reanen Goodspeed, Jewel Pignetti

DELHI, N.Y. (March 30, 2021) - The SUNY Delhi Athletics Broncos of the Week takes on a new meaning! We are excited to collaborate with our community to highlight our local student-athletes, and turning to our Broncos who have excelled academically. Each week we will showcase our Broncos through "Nate Lull's Local Look" and our "Scholar Athlete Student Spotlight."

Nate Lull's Local Look: Reanen Goodspeed, Women's Soccer (Morris, NY / Morris Central)

WCDO Sports Director Nate Lull is based in Sidney, NY and reports on high school sports in the counties that surround SUNY Delhi. Many of the athletes Nate covers continue their sports careers by joining the Bronco family. Each week Nate will highlight a local player he covered in high school who is now in college at Delhi.

This week Nate has selected Reanen Goodspeed from Women's Soccer. Reanen is a native of Morris, NY.

Nate says: "Reanen was a standout 3-sport athlete at Morris Central School. She was a league all-star in soccer, basketball and softball for the Mustangs. She helped her basketball team win a league championship in 2018 where they erased a 15 point halftime deficit to earn a comeback victory. Reanen really stood out on the soccer field where she was a feared goal scorer. Her speed and quick moves made her a nightmare for defenders around the area. Her game has translated well to Delhi, and I know she loves being a Bronco. Her 2 goal performance against NVU Lyndon was a real highlight of her freshman year."

Check back next week for another one of Nate's picks!

Scholar Athlete Student Spotlight: Jewel Pignetti, Cross Country/Track & Field (New Windsor, NY / Cornwall Central)

Fall 2020 graduate Jewel Pignetti juggled a vast number of her responsibilities in her four years at SUNY Delhi. She took on the challenge of running cross country and track & field while majoring in Mechatronics, earning both her Associate's and Bachelor's degrees. In addition, she served as a representative on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and a term as the committee's Outreach Coordinator, working with various departments in the campus and community on SAAC's behalf. Jewel received the Ligeikis family scholarship based on the merits of a 2.5 GPA with roles of leadership in the STEM field. A multiple all-academic recipient between the USCAA, NAC, and a SUNY Delhi Scholar Athlete, Jewel worked internships at Con Edison and Multi-Dimensional Integration, where she now works at the latter as a Controls Engineer. She is now pursuing her Master's in Cyber Security from John Brown University.
