DELHI, N.Y. (March 16, 2021) - The SUNY Delhi Athletics Broncos of the Week takes on a new meaning! We are excited to collaborate with our community to highlight our local student-athletes, and turning to our Broncos who have excelled academically. Each week we will showcase our Broncos through "Nate Lull's Local Look" and our "Scholar Athlete Student Spotlight."

Nate Lull's Local Look: Lexi Taylor, Women's Volleyball (Norwich, NY / Norwich)

WCDO Sports Director Nate Lull is based in Sidney, NY and reports on high school sports in the counties that surround SUNY Delhi. Many of the athletes Nate covers continue their sports careers by joining the Bronco family. Each week Nate will highlight a local player he covered in high school who is now in college at Delhi.

This week Nate has selected Lexi Taylor from Women's Volleyball. Lexi is a native of Norwich, NY.

Nate says: "It has been very exciting to see Lexi excel with the Broncos volleyball program. I think the combination of the veterinary science program and the chance to play volleyball at the next level made Delhi an easy choice for Lexi. I am sure playing for an outgoing and knowledgeable coach like Beau Bracchy also helped! At Norwich High School, Lexi was a standout player. I remember watching her rack up 20 kills in a sweep of rival Susquehanna Valley. Even more impressive was her play at the net against SV's very tall middle hitter (who went on to play D1 basketball, that's how tall she was!). She had 3 blocks that game and neutralized one of the toughest players in the league in the process. Since joining the Delhi team, she has twice been named the NAC rookie of the week and has really had a big impact on the floor early in her career."

Check back next week for another one of Nate's picks!

Scholar Athlete Student Spotlight: Dominick DeBonis, Men's Tennis (Endicott, NY / Union-Endicott)

Sophomore Dominick DeBonis was ready to serve things up for his first season with the Broncos last spring, which sadly was cancelled. His commitment never waned, however, as he stayed focus on his tennis game in preparation to play his long-awaited first career collegiate match in just a few weeks. It's these qualities that earned him Coach Mark Birman's Men's Tennis Coach's Award last season. He quickly established himself as a leader for the program, becoming the team's SAAC representative. This past fall Dominick was named to the USCAA Academic All-American Team, possessing the highest GPA among returning men's tennis student-athletes. He majors in Electrical Construction & Instrumentation. Dominick played on his high school baseball team. Despite SUNY Delhi not carrying baseball as an intercollegiate sport and his limited knowledge of tennis, Dominick decided to come out for the tennis team to continue his student-athlete career through college.
