Broncos of the Week 2/1-2/7

Delhi, NY - Our Broncos of the Week for February 1st through the 7th share the long jump pit as the site for their accomplishments.  Kimberly Dean and Luke Foster both had fantastic personal bests in the long jump event at the Bomber Invitational held at Ithaca College on February 3rd.  The jumping events are often off on the side of a facility and don't get as much attention as the oval, but today we highlight two jumpers that certainly deserve some spotlight.

Kimberly Dean

Senior | Bellport, NY | Women's Track & Field

Kim Dean had a great day in the Bomber Invite.  First, Dean ran the 60 meter dash where she finished in a time of 8.35 seconds.  That is her fastest time of the semester and a full two-tenths of a second faster than she ran a week earlier.  However, her real highlight came on the long jump runway, where she used her improved speed to her advantage.  Dean jumped 4.90 meters which is 16' 1" for her first ever jump beyond the 16 foot mark.

Luke Foster

Sophomore | Otego, NY | Men's Track & Field

Foster also took advantage of a fast facility to open the meet with his lifetime best in the 60 meter dash, running 7.38 seconds in the event.  Much like Dean, he then shifted his focus to the long jump runway where improved speed always helps.  Foster entered the meet with a lifetime best of 6.42 meters or 21' 0.75".  However, on this day he would jump beyond that mark on all three of his legal marks, finishing with a best of 6.74 meters or 22' 1.5" giving him his first ever jump over 22 feet.  That jump placed foster in the all-time top five for the SUNY Delhi program at fifth place surpassing Marco Gonzalez and just two centimeters short of fourth, currently held by Anthony Eardley.

Dean and Foster will look to continue the progress through the end of indoor and into the outdoor season where the Broncos will try to retake the North Atlantic Conference Title this spring.  The track team will be back in action as a squad at Cornell University on February 17th.
