Delhi, NY -
After some solid performances from Delhi athletics in the first month of 2024, two juniors led the charge for their respective programs. Women’s track/field’s Kitty Messina and men’s basketball’s Isiah Barnes came up with some big-time performances throughout the week.
Kitty Messina
Junior | Canandaigua, NY | Women’s Track and Field
Kitty Messina threw a new lifetime best of 14.50 meters to break the previous program record of 14.48 meter set by Diana Echols in 2020. Messina's mark was good enough for second place overall in the meet and will punch her ticket to the All-Atlantic Regional Championships in March.
Messina has shown steady progression throughout her career at Delhi, but has been on fire this season. Entering the season with a lifetime best of 12.90 meters, Messina went over 14 meters for the first time in December. Now she has opened 2024 in fine fashion! Kitty and Women’s Track and Field will be back in action Saturday, January 20th, for the Highlander Invitational at Houghton University.
Isiah Barnes
Junior | Elmont, NY | Men’s Basketball
Barnes played a pivotal role during the Broncos' three game home stretch, with his season-high (17) in scoring came against last year’s NAC Championship opponent, UMaine Farmington. Overall, the Junior finished the week with 43 points, grabbing 16 rebounds, and 5 steals to go along with his 4.5 Assists-to-turnover ratio throughout his last three games.
Isiah and the men's team have another home game stretch, against the neighboring Cobleskill Fighting Tigers on Saturday, with SUNY Poly the following week on Tuesday, the 23rd.
