Broncos Rally for Five-Set Win at Morrisville State

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. (September 19, 2019) – The SUNY Delhi women's volleyball team pulled out another come-from-behind five-set win Thursday night at Morrisville State. After a dominating Mustangs third set put Delhi in the hot seat down two sets to one, the Broncos answered with a 25-20 win in set four to force a deciding set. Down, 8-5, at the switch, Delhi responded with ten of the next 15 points for a 15-13 set victory to improve to 6-1 on the season.

The host Mustangs jumped out to a 25-14 first-set win, to which the Broncos responded by taking set two by a 25-21 score. Despite an 8-4 Delhi lead to start set three, Morrisville took control with a 21-3 run to take a 25-11 win. Both sides exchanged runs in set four. Ahead, 18-17, the Broncos grabbed the next five points and seven of the next ten to force set five. Delhi opened the fifth set up, 4-1, before Morrisville ran off seven of the next eight points for a three-point lead at the switch. The Broncos remained resilient. Down, 12-10, the ladies ran off the next four points to pull ahead, leading to their second five-set win of the season, as well as their second victory after being down two sets to one.

The game-winning point came off a Witchney Clersainville kill as she led the Broncos with nine kills and eight block assists. Taylor Tsatsis provided eight kills, while Lexi Taylor totaled six kills and 12 digs. Haylee Lefebvre and Chloe Elsenbeck had five kills apiece, with Elsenbeck adding 16 digs. Erica Prindle finished with 27 assists, 12 digs and seven block assists, while Shelby Nolan totaled a team-high 17 digs.

The Broncos pulled out the win despite Morrisville State leading, 54-34, in total kills, and a .151 kill percentage to Delhi's .080. They did, however, post 68 total digs to the Mustangs' 62, and had 24 total blocks to the home team's eight.

Head coach Beau Bracchy's team is back home this Sunday, hosting Farmingdale State and MCLA in a tri-match, beginning at 11:00 a.m.
