Women's Netters Split Matches in NY-NJ Road Trip

DELHI, N.Y. (September 30, 2018) – The SUNY Delhi women's tennis team took a weekend trip down to New York-New Jersey, splitting a pair of matches in their venture. The Broncos traveled to Ramapo on Saturday, suffering a 9-0 defeat, but bounced back on Sunday to beat Vaughn, 8-1, on tennis' grandest stage at the USTA Tennis Center, home of the U.S. Open. Delhi stands at 2-7 on the year.

RAMAPO 9, SUNY DELHI 0

The Roadrunners earned two doubles matches with 8-0 scores. Delhi's three tandem of Katelyn Lewis and Taylor Moss earned a game win in their 8-1 defeat to Megha Mehta and Natalie Borzone. Ramapo went on to win four singles matches in straight sets by 6-0 scores. Jessica Biller won a game against Fran Chicherchia in the two spot during the 6-1, 6-0 match, while Mackenzie Landman won one game versus Danielle Gilman at three in the 6-0, 6-1 contest.

SUNY DELHI 8, VAUGHN 1

The Broncos handily captured their first doubles sweep of the season against the Warriors. The closest match was at two double, where Jessica Biller and Mackenzie Landman took an 8-4 win over Cheres Castaneda and Emely Castilo. Katie Mach and Safiyyah Muhammad won, 8-1, in their one match, while Sarah Krzyston and Taylor Moss gathered an 8-2 victory in the three spot.

Mach, Biller, Landman, Moss translated their fortunes over to the singles column, gathering wins at one, two, three and five, respectively, all in straight sets. The wins were as follows: Mach 6-0 and 6-1, Biller 6-4 and 6-2, Landman 6-3 and 6-2, and Moss 6-3 and 6-2. Katelyn Lewis recorded her first singles win, beating Capucine Cordina by matching 6-2 scores.

Head coach Courtney Hoyt's team closes out their home season on Wednesday, welcoming Utica for a 4:00 p.m. semi matinee. The Broncos defeated the Pioneers, 5-4, in their first meeting earlier this season.
