Broncos Finish Road Season at Alfred State

ALFRED, N.Y. (February 9, 2019) – The SUNY Delhi women's basketball team ended their road season Saturday with a 80-54 defeat at ACAA-foe Alfred State. Katelyn Lewis had a career-best 14 points to go with nine rebounds, while Kiera Holland made a team-high 17 points with seven boards and Sam Acuna 12 points. The Broncos are now 11-12 on the season with one game to go, as they will host College of St. Joseph next Saturday.  

Starting with scoring the first four points, the host Pioneers led the entire game and being up, 18-9, after the first quarter. South Kortright-native Acuna made the second of her two 3-pointers early in the second quarter to cut Alfred State's lead to eight, but that would be the closest the Broncos would come for the rest of the contest. The Pioneers led, 42-25, at halftime, and built their lead to as much as 32 points by game's end.

Delhi-native Brenna Gioffe posted four points with seven rebounds, as Diana Echols charted two points with six boards. Hancock's Malorie Rutledge made one 3-pointer for three points and Brianna Thomas logged two points with four boards.

The Broncos shot made 33.3 percent on the evening (23-for-69), including 5-of-19 from long range, as the Pioneers made 43.8 percent (35-for-80) and 7-of-18, respectively. Alfred State held a 51-43 edge in rebounds, 46-26 in points in the paint, and 20-10 in fastbreak points. Delhi was forced into 17 turnovers, which the Pioneers followed through for a 27-8 advantage in points off turnovers.

Head coach Courtney Hoyt's has the week ahead of them to prepare for their season finale with the Fighting Saints, set for Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
