RUTLAND, Vt. (January 5, 2019) – It came down to the final swish Saturday in the SUNY Delhi women's basketball team's road meeting at College of St. Joseph. Trailing by as much as 17 points after one quarter in their first game since Dec. 17, the Broncos rallied furiously to tie the game late at 65-65. It would be the Fighting Saints, though, that would have final possession to bury the game-winner at the buzzer for the 67-65 decision.

Delhi struggled in the first half to produce points, making just 8-of-30 field goals with one 3-pointer, as CSJ posted its largest lead of the game with a 26-9 score after the first quarter, and went into halftime up, 40-26. The Broncos picked up steam to open the second half to get them on the comeback trail, cutting their deficit to 53-47 to finish the third quarter. Samiaya Salley proved to be the ladies' spark, scoring 24 of her game-high 28 points in the final two quarters, while making 6-of-8 triples. She went a perfect 3-for-3 from long range in the fourth quarter, with her final three tying the game at 65-65 with 1:09 to play. Following a pair of possession changes, CSJ held the ball with 28 second to play to administer the final scoring chance. With seconds left, Nakeeya Oodman-Boddie put up a shot from the right side, which missed the mark, but Jayla Latham was there to grab the offensive rebound and bank in the game-winning layup for the narrow victory.

Salley finished 10-of-20 from the field and 6-of-12 from long range, and grabbed seven rebounds. Kiera Holland scored 15 points, while Sam Acuna totaled 12 points with eight boards. Diana Echols cut close to a double-double with eight points and 11 rebounds, while Katelyn Lewis received 11 boards of her own.

The Broncos made 35.9 percent from the field (23-for-64), 8-for-20 from long range and 11-of-15 from the free throw line. The hosts made 32.0 percent (24-for-75), 5-for-23 and 14-of-23, respectively. Delhi held the edge on rebounds, 52-49, although CSJ used a 15-10 lead in offensive boards for a 20-10 lead in second-chance points. The Broncos also were forced into 22 turnovers that led to the Fighting Saints leading, 19-10, in points off turnovers.

Head coach Courtney Hoyt's squad makes their 2019 home debut on Tuesday, hosting ACAA-opponent Pratt at 4:00 p.m.
