Ladies Suffer 93-56 Defeat to Villa Maria

DELHI, N.Y. (November 20, 2018) – The SUNY Delhi women's basketball team had one more fight before Thanksgiving break on Tuesday, welcoming Villa Maria for an afternoon matinee. Though Kiera Holland scored 20 points and Diana Echols logged her third double-double on 14 points and 14 boards, the Broncos were unable to keep up with a high-scoring Vikings squad in a 93-56 defeat. Head coach Courtney Hoyt's team enters the break at 2-3.

Delhi hung tight with Villa to start, trailing just 12-10 after one quarter and 28-20 at intermission. But the Vikings shifted gears thereafter, scoring 65 second-half points and 36 in the fourth quarter. The Broncos were hampered by a 30.9 percent showing from the field (21-for-68) and a 6-for-25 performance from the free throw line, while Villa fared 42.5 percent (37-for-87) and 9-of-12, respectively. The ladies were also forced into 23 turnovers, which the visitors cashed in for 17 points, and were outrebounded by a 61-48 margin. The Vikings also led, 36-2, in bench points and 27-9 in second-chance points.

Holland made three of the Broncos' eight 3-pointers on her way to her team-leading total, while Samiaya Salley hit on four 3-pointers to finished with 13 points and eight boards. Sam Acuna had four points with five rebounds, as Camryn McDonald tallied three points and five assists.

The Broncos have a week off before heading to North Country next Tuesday for a meeting at SUNY Canton at 6:00 p.m.
