Delhi Drops Final Game of the Season to Canton

SUNY Delhi traveled to SUNY Canton Sunday afternoon for their final game of the season. The Broncos struggled to put the ball in the net to start the game, falling behind 18-10 at the end of the first period. However, an outstanding defensive performance in the second period held the Roo's to a game low 5 point gain in the second period and allowed the Broncos to enter halftime down by only two, 23-21. The Broncos came out firing in the second half and put up 6 quick points, taking the lead from Canton 27-23. SUNY Delhi maintained the lead for the entirety of the third period. In the final period of play, a back and forth battle ensued, resulting in 13 lead changes. With the game tied at 49 and just one minute and 12 seconds left on the clock, SUNY Delhi's Sam Acuna sunk a layup, putting the Broncos on top 51-49. As the game clock ticked just under a minute to play, the Roo's answered with their own basket, re-tying the game at 51. A foul by SUNY Delhi's Brittany Toliver with 39 seconds left put SUNY Canton's Randi Conway at the line in an attempt to take the lead. After sinking both free throw attempts, the Roo's took the final lead change of the game and would go on to win 56-51, shooting 5-5 from the free throw line to finish the game. SUNY Delhi's Samiaya Salley led the way on the scoreboard for the Broncos, scoring 16 points. Teammate Katie Herba had a team high 13 rebounds, 5 assists, and 6 steals.
