Broncos' OT Performance Tops Alfred State

Broncos' OT Performance Tops Alfred State

SUNY Delhi's Brittany Toliver had a career high 31 points in the Broncos' win against Alfred State Sunday afternoon. The Broncos came out strong in the first period, taking the lead 20-18, with Toliver scoring three of her four three pointers and contributing 13 points. The Pioneers struggled with foul trouble in the first half, but a strong showing by the Alfred State bench dominated the Broncos in the second quarter and helped them take the lead at the half 42-35. Both teams battled back and forth throughout the third period, but the Broncos could not take control of the scoreboard and the Pioneers took a commanding 12 point lead headed into the fourth. SUNY Delhi's Katie Herba, however, would not let the Broncos go out without a fight. Quiet for most the game, Herba lit up the fourth period with three steals, four assists, and 10 points. The Broncos held the Pioneers to their lowest scoring period, allowing only 14 points, and putting away a quarter high 26 points. Diana Echols' strong defensive performance kept Alfred State's Catherine Bialecki from dominating in the fourth quarter as she had been throughout the game thus far. Regular time would expire with the score tied 77-77. In overtime, the Broncos outscored the Pioneers 13 to three, finishing on top at the final buzzer 90-80. SUNY Delhi's comeback win was not a solo effort for the Broncos. In addition to Toliver and Herba's contributions, Echols pulled in 10 rebounds and put away 9 points and Sam Acuna added 11 points, four assists, six rebounds, and three steals. Bialecki finished with a game high 35 points for the Pioneers.
