Saturday, the track and field teams competed in the Mark Denault Invitational at Cornell University. As has been the case most of the season, the biggest highlights came from the SUNY Delhi jumping squad who broke two school records.
Leading the way was senior Keimon Barrow, who won the triple jump and high jump competitions. In the triple jump, Barrow added 10 centimeters to his own school record with a mark of 15.55 meters, which equals 51' 0.25". In the high jump he cleared 2.09 meters (6' 10.25") to win the meet. His performance earned him the honor of the Field Event Performer of the Meet.
Also breaking a school record was sophoore Doug Williams, who reclaimed his school record in the long jump with a leap of 7.25 meters (23' 9.5") from Barrow. The mark placed him second overall in the meet and makes it the fourth time this year the record in the event has changed hands between Williams and Barrow.
Adding strong performances from the jumping squad were sophomore Brian McLeod who placed second in the high jump with a clearance of 1.99 meters (6' 6.25") and freshman Troy Dickson who went 12.90 (42' 4") meters in the triple jump to place eighth.
On the track, the team also fared very well. Williams placed third in the 300 meters with an impressive time of 35.62 seconds, just missing the school record held by Walter Briggs by 0.05 seconds. The time makes him the second fastest in school history for that event. Also placing third was senior Jack Hillenbrand in the 5000 meters with a time of 15:42.69.
For the women, there were also a few close calls on school records. Freshman Madeeah Oranchak dropped her time in the 200 meters posting a 26.88 making her the second fastest in school history in that event to place tenth overall. Fellow freshman Nikita Hall ran the fourth fastest 300 meter time in school history to place sixth overall with her 44.93 second clocking.
Freshman Isamarie Ramos and junior Kelsey Esselman added a 4-5 finish for the broncos in the 600 meter run with times of 1:45.59 and 1:48.94 respectively. Ramos, Esselman and Hall then teamed up with freshman Ashley Magnifico to place fifth in the 4x400 meter relay with a season best time of 4:25.79.
Next week the team will travel a partial squad to the Fast Chance Meet at Ocean Breeze.
