Briggs Opens Season With School Record

RESULTS

The SUNY Delhi Track and Field team opened their season at Cornell University.  The meet was really just to get things started but sophomore Walter Briggs started up where he left off last spring.  After winning two individual national titles (110HH and 400IH) and anchoring two national championship relay teams (4x400 and 4x800) to lead the team to the National Championship last spring, Briggs opened the winter season by breaking the school record in the 300 meters.  His time of 35.57 was good for sixth place overall in the largely division I meet and took nearly three tenths of a second off the previous record set last year by TJ Santiago.  He also opened the season with a nice personal best in the 60 meter hurdles with a full tenth of a second improvement, leaving him within a tenth of the school record in that event as well.

The women were led by freshman Julia Knapp who ran the 60 hurdles and 300 meters.  Knapp placed 11th in the 60 hurdles behind eight divsion I athletes and just missed the school record in the 300 meters by 0.15 seconds.

The team will have one more meet at Utica College before the break and then will really start their season in January.
