DELHI, N.Y. (April 22, 2018) – The SUNY Delhi softball team wrapped up their home-opening weekend series with SUNY Canton on Sunday. After coming up short in two hard-fought games Saturday, the Broncos dropped both contests Sunday, 12-2 and 12-0. The Broncos continue their homestand this Tuesday, welcoming College of St. Joseph to Robert S. Brown Field for a doubleheader at 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.
SUNY CANTON 12, SUNY DELHI 2
Canton started the game off with five runs in the first inning, after which the Broncos and Roos exchanged runs in the second and third inning to make the score 7-2 after three. Haylee Lefebvre, who went 2-for-3 with one double, scored Delhi's first run on a wild pitch, then gathered an RBI the next inning when a dropped fly by second-baseman Raechel Yost allowed Renee Stilwell to score. The game proceeded with scoreless frames in the fourth, but a five-run Roos fifth put the five-inning rule in effect. Starter Jenna Lutz put up two strikeouts in 4.2 innings of work, allowing nine earned runs on 16 hits. Molly Greene then came on to pitch to get the final out in the fifth. Right fielder Sierra Keesler went a perfect 3-for-3, while third-baseman Yesileidy Paulino hit 2-for-3 with one double.

In a vast departure from the first three weekend games, Sunday's nightcap saw a scoreless first two innings. The Broncos' staked a scoring threat in the second inning, loading the bases with two outs. Renee Stilwell sent a drive to center field, but was snagged by the diving Stefanie Miller to end the inning. The Roos seized the momentum by putting up seven runs in the third, three in the fourth and two more in the fifth. Delhi finished with nine hits, including four 2-for-3 showings from Emily Clapper, Haylee Lefebvre, Samantha Mendelsohn and Liana Garry. Lefebvre pitched the first 2.1 innings, posting one K and allowing seven earned runs on eight hits, before handing the ball over to Molly Greene, who gave up just three earned runs on four this through 1.2 innings. Jenna Lutz pitched the fifth, allowing just one earned run on three hits.
