MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (March 2, 2018) – The SUNY Delhi softball team wrapped up day three of their four-game spring break trip Friday with their second straight three-game outing. The Broncos began the day being swept by Michigan Dearborn, 13-0 and 11-2, and dropped an 8-0 contest versus Florence Darlington.
MICHIGAN DEARBORN 13, SUNY DELHI 0 (FIVE INNINGS)
SUNY Delhi was no hit in the contest, with an Emily Clapper walk in the fourth standing as Delhi's only time on base. The Broncos accounted for six errors, as the Wolverines tallied a pair of runs in the first and second inning, four runs in the third, three in the fourth and two more in the fifth. Dearborn finished with 16 hits, as shortstop Rachel Clem led the way with four hits, along with four RBIs. Starter Haylee Lefebvre struck out two as she surrendered five earned runs (11 total) and 13 hits through 4.0 innings. Southpaw Molly Greene struck out one and allowed one earned run (two total) on three hits in relief. Delhi struck out 11 times.
MICHIGAN DEARBORN 11, SUNY DELHI 2 (FIVE INNINGS)
Behind, 4-0, after one frame, starter Jenna Lutz bounced back with back-to-back scoreless second and third innings, while the Broncos drove in a pair of runs in the top of the third to cut it to 4-2. Third-baseman Isabella DeMatteis stole home on a double steal for Delhi's first score, after which Brittany Trank singled to left to drive in Liana Garry. The Wolverines, however, took Delhi for seven runs in the bottom of the fourth to push the game to a five-inning mercy. Lutz struck out three, while giving up eight earned runs (11 total) through 4.0 innings of work. The Broncos committed four errors, including three in the fourth.
FLORENCE DARLINGTON 8, SUNY DELHI 0 (SIX INNINGS)
After a three-run Stingers first, pitcher Jenna Lutz answered with three scoreless innings. The Broncos were held to just two hits all game, though, as Florence Darlington tacked on four in the fifth. Molly Greene then took over on the mound to get the final out in the fifth, but an Auh'Kieria Smiling RBI double in the sixth turned the lights out on the contest. Lutz struck out one as she allowed three earned runs (seven total) and nine hits through 4.2 innings, while Greene struck out one and gave up one earned run on three hits in 0.2 frames. Sierra Becht and Samantha Mendelson accounted for each of Delhi's hits.
