Robinson, Brunt Recognized as Part of NAC's Men's Tennis Salute to Seniors

WATERVILLE, Me. (March 30, 2020) - The North Atlantic Conference (NAC) salutes the men's tennis seniors and 2020 graduates whose seasons were lost or cut short this spring in the wake of the coronavirus.

This is not the season you envisioned, nor the exit from collegiate tennis that you deserve. While some of you may be able to return to the court next year, most of you will move on to the next chapter in life with an unfinished collegiate athletics career. Although that is an unsatisfying end, we hope you take comfort in the memories made and goals accomplished in seasons past. We know you will step forth and make the world better in an unprecedented time that can really use your strength, knowledge, and spirit.

Thank you for your effort and dedication to your school, your sport, and your team. We are with you. We ARE you. #whyNAC

The SUNY Delhi Men's Tennis Graduates

Jake Robinson (Oneonta, NY / Oneonta) was new to the men's tennis program as a sophomore entering the 2019 season, but ended up becoming one of the Broncos' driving forces on their way to a NAC Finals appearance. After narrowly losing to MCLA, 5-4, during the regular season, Robinson and SUNY Delhi came back with a vengeance to defeat the Trailblazers in the NAC Semifinals by the same score. Robinson, after a tiebreaking victory with Payton Dean at two doubles, 8-7 (4), provided the decisive victory at six singles, avenging his regular-season defeat to Briana Higgins by defeating her in the playoffs, 6-2, 2-6, 6-1. Robinson earned All-NAC Tournament honors for his performance. The 2020 season would have marked Robinson's last, as the Recreation and Sports Management major plans to devote his senior year towards completing his degree, using the Spring 2021 semester for his internship. He was a recipient of the SUNY Chancellor's Scholar-Athlete Award.

James Brunt (Vestal, NY / Vestal) would have played his first season this spring with the men's tennis program. Brunt is a sophomore who will be finishing his Associate's degree in Residential Construction. He was also a two-year student-athlete on the swimming and diving program, becoming a two-time recipient of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate College (AMCC) Sportsmanship Award. Brunt saved his best performance for last at the conference championships, recording a career-best time of 58.73 in the 100-yard freestyle, marking his first sub-minute finish in the event.
