Freshmen Sweep NAC Tennis Weekly Awards

WATERVILLE, Me. (March 26, 2019) – Week two of the SUNY Delhi men's tennis season brings two more NAC weekly honors. Laif Lundstorm (Glenville, NY / Scotia-Glenville) earned praise for the second straight week, this time as the conference's Player of the Week, while Christopher Balogh (Westtown, NY / Minisink Valley) picked up Rookie of the Week. The two freshmen each posted doubles and singles wins in the top two spots in Delhi's lone match Sunday versus Elmira, accounting for four of the Broncos' wins in a 5-4 victory. The men now stand at 2-1 on the year.

In both doubles and singles, Lundstrom and Balogh competed in the one and two positions, respectively. The two each overcame a 4-3 deficit in their doubles matches, winning the next five games for a pair of 8-4 victories for the Broncos. Lundstrom accomplished this with partner Marcos Andrino, while Balogh pulled through with mate Payton Dean. Another win at three doubles gave Delhi its second straight match sweeping the doubles competition. Balogh quickly snagged a 6-0, 6-3 win over Zackarie Stedge in the second singles spot, while Lundstrom defeated Stephen Gervase at one, 6-2 and 6-1, to clinch the team victory for Delhi just six matches in.

Lundstrom has held down the top singles and doubles spots through the team's first three matches, possessing a 2-1 record in both capacities, including all with doubles partner Andrino. Balogh holds a 1-1 record as Delhi's two-singles man, and a perfect 2-0 in the second doubles spot with Dean.

Balogh, Lundstorm and the Broncos now embark on a three-match road trip to seek their first win away from home. It all starts Saturday with their NAC season debut at Thomas at 10:00 a.m., followed by Sage on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. and Utica Wednesday, April 3 at 4:00 p.m.
