DELHI, N.Y. (April 25, 2019) – With their historic first NCAA Division III regular season behind them, the SUNY Delhi men's lacrosse team will now make an even more monumental trip to New England College this Saturday for their first NCAA conference tournament. The Broncos earned the NAC's second seed with an 11-5 overall record and 5-1 conference mark, and will square off with the NEC Pilgrims in the semifinals of the NAC/NECC Crossover Tournament Saturday, April 27 at 1:00 p.m. The Pilgrims earned the top seed from the NECC with a 7-8 overall record and 3-0 conference ledger.

The winner of Saturday's semifinals will advance to the NAC/NECC Championship on Saturday, May 4. They will face the victor of the remaining Saturday semifinals matchup between the NAC's number-one seed, SUNY Canton (9-6, 6-0 NAC), and the NECC's two seed, Dean (7-5, 2-1 NECC). The finals are slated to be hosted by the highest-remaining NAC seed. Delhi is the lone contender in the four-team alliance tournament with double-digit wins. 

Year in Review…

The 2019 edition of the Broncos posted their best season under third-year head coach Sam Miller, while quickly welcoming themselves as a formidable presence in their first year in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC). Despite being ranked sixth out of seven teams in the conference's preseason poll, the Broncos cruised to wins in their first five NAC games – 12-5 vs. Maine Maritime on Mar. 16, 12-5 at Husson on Mar. 23, 23-0 vs. Thomas on Mar. 30, 22-3 at NVU Johnson on April 6, and 14-7 at NVU Lyndon on April 13. Delhi also overcame an 0-2 start to the year after defeats down in Virginia to Randolph and Bridgewater, starting with winning its next six games for its highest win streak of the season.

SUNY Delhi clinched a tournament spot with its NAC victory over NVU Lyndon. The Broncos wrapped up their NAC regular season Saturday against SUNY Canton in a battle for first place in the NAC and tournament home field advantage rights. In a hotly-contested game that lived up to its billing, the Roos edged out a 10-9 win.

• Malik Talbert, Senior Midfielder (Valley Stream, NY / Valley Stream Central)
  • Reached both 100 career points and 100 career goals this season. Has amassed 143 career points on 104 goals and 39 assists in a three-year career.
  • Ranks second in the NAC with 43 goals and third with 63 points.
  • Scored a year-best five goals at Farmingdale State on April 10, and racked up season-high seven points on four goals and three assists in 14-7 regular season finale win at Mount Saint Vincent April 24.
  • Two-time NAC Player of the Week.

• John Rohan, Junior Attacker (Wantagh, NY / Wantagh)
  • NAC leader with 69 points and 53 goals. Currently has 91 career points on 68 goals and 23 assists over two years.
  • Posted a year-best eight points on seven goals and one assist in two contests. The first at SUNY Poly on Mar. 27, and the latter in a 15-9 victory over Houghton on April 3.
  • Two-time NAC Player of the Week.

• Travis Anderson, Freshman Goalie (Putnam Valley, NY / Putnam Valley)
  • Leads NAC with 8.03 goals against average and 160 total saves, while ranking second with a 55.4 save percentage.
  • Started all 16 games in goal.
  • Posted a season-best 17 saves in 13-7 win at Purchase on Mar. 10 and pitched a shutout with four saves in 23-0 NAC win over Thomas on Mar. 30.
  • Three-time NAC weekly recipient – two as NAC Defensive Player of the Week, one as NAC Rookie of the Week

• The Defense
  • Led by captains Antonio Russo (Oneonta, NY / Oneonta) and Jacob Nygard (Lake Grove, NY / Sachem North)
  • Helped to cause 172 turnovers and clear 244-of-310 attempts, as well as holding offenses to give the Broncos a combined 718-517 lead over opponents in shots this season and 425-289 in shots on goal.
  • Rank first in the NAC with just 129 goals allowed.
  • Turned in a shutout performance in 23-0 NAC win over Thomas on Mar. 30, holding the Terriors to just six shots, including four on goal. 

• Nick Dower, Freshman Midfielder/Faceoff Specialist (Oneonta, NY / Oneonta)
  • Leads NAC with 222 faceoff wins on 353 attempts, as well as 156 ground balls.
  • Won at least 20 faceoffs in a pair of contests, including a season-best 22-of-24 in 14-7 win at Mount Saint Vincent April 24, where he, too, had a season-high 20 ground balls. Also won 20-of-25 in 14-7 win at NVU Lyndon on April 6.
  • Scored ten points on seven goals and three assists.
  • NAC Rookie of the Week.

• Brandon McGrath, Freshman Attacker (Campbell Hall, NY / Goshen Central)
  • NAC leader with 31 assists and tied for ninth in the conference with 44 points.
  • Earned a season-high seven points and five assists in 14-7 NAC win at NVU Johnson on April 6. Had year-best three goals in 23-0 NAC victory over Thomas on Mar. 30
