Talbert's Consecutive Four-Goal Days Earn Him Second NAC Player of the Week

WATERVILLE, Me. (April 8, 2019) – With another two-win week under their belt, including a NAC victory to go 4-0 in the conference, the SUNY Delhi men's lacrosse team claimed a NAC weekly recipient for the sixth straight week. Senior Malik Talbert (Valley Stream, NY / Valley Stream Central) racked up his second NAC Player of the Week honor of the season following back-to-back four goal performances to help Delhi defeat Houghton, 15-9, on Wednesday, and a 22-3 NAC win over Northern Vermont Johnson Saturday.

Against the Highlanders, Talbert netted all four scores in the second half, including three in the fourth quarter to help the Broncos pull away. Two of his fourth-quarter goals gave Delhi its largest lead of the contest by six goals, the latter of which was scored with a man down. Talbert changed very little in the Broncos' meeting with the Hornets Saturday, only adding an assist for a five-point day. With the Broncos leading just 2-1 in the first quarter, Talbert fired back-to-back scores, the first two of what would be 13 consecutive Delhi goals scored over the course of three quarters to go ahead, 15-1. The senior had a hand in one of those second-quarter goals, and tallied his fourth score in the final quarter.

Talbert ranks second in the NAC in scoring, behind teammate John Rohan, with 45 points and 34 goals. He is also tied for fifth in the conference with 11 assists. The Valley Stream, NY native now has 120 career points on 88 goals and 32 assists in just three seasons competing for the Broncos.

Head coach Sam Miller's team is 9-3 overall and 4-0 in the NAC, having won nine of their last ten games. With four more regular-season matchups, including two more NAC contests, the first-place Broncos have set themselves up to clinch a playoff spot for the NAC/NECC Tournament, which features the top two teams from each conference.

Delhi faces off at Farmingdale State this Wednesday at 4:00 p.m., then have two straight NAC contests to finalize a playoff berth. They will head over to NAC-foe Northern Vermont Lyndon on Saturday at 3:00 p.m., followed by hosting SUNY Canton on Saturday, April 20 at 1:00 p.m. Delhi caps the regular season at Mount Saint Vincent on Wednesday, April 24 at 5:00 p.m.
