NORTHFIELD Vt. (April 7, 2019) – The SUNY Delhi men's lacrosse team carried on with their NAC season on Saturday, and carried on with their win total, beating Northern Vermont Johnson, 22-3, at Norwich University. The Broncos posted their second straight 20-goal conference game to stand at 4-0 in the NAC and 9-3 overall. Head coach Sam Miller's team has four more regular-season contests, including two more NAC matchups, to look to lock up a conference tournament spot.
Delhi scored the first two goals of the game. Though the Badgers answered with one of their own to cut the lead to 2-1, the Broncos fired off 13 consecutive goals over the first, second and third quarters for a commanding 15-1 lead. The men went on to outscore their hosts, 7-2, the rest of the way. Senior Malik Talbert led the charge with four goals and one assist, as well as freshman Brandon McGrath with two goals and five assists. Conference-leading scorer John Rohan went two-and-two on goals and assists, while Brian Conti and Joshua Krase each totaled three goals. Freshman goalie Travis Anderson tallied seven saves.
Saturday's win puts SUNY Delhi in the driver's seat for the conference tournament. The Broncos are in first place, ahead of SUNY Canton, who is 3-0 in league play, and Husson, who Delhi defeated earlier this year for the Eagles' lone NAC loss to stand at 2-1. Delhi and Canton will square off on April 20 in its much-anticipated showdown, serving as both teams' NAC season finales. The top two finishers in the NAC will meet the top two from the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) for the conference tournament. The semifinals will take place on Saturday, April 27, with the one-seed from the NAC hosting the NECC's two-seed, and vice versa.
Delhi outshot the Badgers Saturday, 50-25, and scored on 2-of-3 man-up opportunities. The Broncos also forced Johnson into 20 turnovers, and came through on 10-of-12 clear attempts. Nick Dower won 19 faceoffs, while Nolan Danielewski won four.
Rohan continues to lead the conference with 57 points and 47 goals. Brandon McGrath can say the same in the assists category with 23. Talbert is second in the conference with 45 points and 34 goals. On defense, Anderson leads the NAC with a year-best 7.50 goals against average and 128 total saves. He is second with a 58.7 save percentage.
Coach Miller's squad has a non-conference meeting at Farmingdale State this Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. before continuing their inaugural NAC campaign at Northern Vermont Lyndon to look to clinch a playoff spot on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. The Broncos will then host league-foe SUNY Canton on Saturday, April 20 at 1:00 p.m., before capping the regular season at Mount Saint Vincent on Wednesday, April 24 at 5:00 p.m.
