Men and Women Take Flight at USCAA Golf Championships

DELHI, N.Y. (October 9, 2017) – With each holding several championships under their belts this fall, the SUNY Delhi men's and women's golf teams take their talents to the USCAA Championships at Penn State's Blue Golf Course. The event will take place Monday, October 9 and Tuesday, October 10. The men won last weekend's NIAC Championship, along with two other team titles, while the women's Alison Agoglia has two individual titles under her belt.

THE MEN

The Delhi men have averaged a 309.25 for the fall, trailing only Dallas (300.7) for the best team average across the USCAA. One thing head coach Dave Arehart doesn't lack on his team is depth, with several players leading the Broncos through their fall events. Through six rounds, Russell Herbert leads Delhi with a 76.5 average, while Alex Fisher holds a top average of 78.13 among his teammates who have competed in all eight rounds of competition. The Broncos finished seventh at least year's USCAA Championships, and second the year before.

At the NIAC Championships, the Broncos shot a 599, including a 298 on day one, on their way to the conference title. Aaron Oliver won the individual crown with a 147, including an even 72 on the first day through cold, rainy weather, as he earned NIAC Male Athlete of the Week. Herbert, Fisher, Ryan Florack and Jonathan Smolen also picked up All-NIAC accolades. Smolen is third on the team with a 78.67 average and carded a season-best 73 on day one at NIACs. Florack is fourth with a 79.38 average, with his best coming in the form of a 74 at round two of the Roberts Wesleyan Redhawk Invitational. Joseph Burgin averages an 80.75 on the season, and topped the leaderboard in Delhi's season-opening win against The Apprentice School, where he clubbed a 73.

THE WOMEN

Alison Agoglia leads Delhi with an 86.0 average, with her year-best coming at Utica, shooting an 81 and 83 over both days for the individual title. In the season opener, she won the SUNY Cobleskill Jug Classic with an 86. Lauren Schnoor has a pair of top-ten finishes this season. She finished fourth at Cobleskill with a 96, and tenth at the Keuka Fall Invitational with a 107. Agoglia placed 92nd at last year's USCAA Championship (193), while Schnoor finished 105th (230).
