DELHI, NY – The Hartwick women's tennis team looked to defend their undefeated season on the road against the Delhi Broncos. Without dropping a single set in both doubles and singles, the Hawks were able to gather a clean sweep, 9-0 and improve to 4-0 on the season. The Broncos drop to 1-4.
No. 2 doubles concluded first with a seamless 8-0 finish registered by the duo of
Kelly Napolitano (Mt. Sinai, NY/Mt. Sinai) and
Kelli Ryan (Plattsburgh, NY/Seton Catholic). Next to finish was the pair made up of
Sam Dow (Schererville, IN/Lake Central) and
Caitlin Hawley (Camillus, NY/West Genesse) at the third showing who replicated the same score and outcome as their teammates at no. 2.
To ensure a perfect start to the afternoon,
Heidi Rice (Canandaigua, NY/Marcus Whitman) and doubles partner
Rose Natoli (Endwell, NY/Maine-Endwell) chipped in with an 8-2 score heading into solo action.
Senior
Caitlin O'Brien (Glenville, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) disposed of Delhi's Jenna Bellair in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0 to put the Hawks up 4-0. Ryan at the #2 flight would also win in consecutive sets, 6-0, 6-0 to grant Hartwick an insurmountable lead. Napolitano tallied a near sweep of her opponent winning 6-0, 6-1 at the top flight.
Finishing fourth was Hawley who duplicated Napolitano's singles score to add to Hartwick's advantage.
At no. 4, Junior
Jaclyn LaSita (Wading River, NY/Shoreham-Wading River) faced Delhi opponent Rani Sanudrala. The first set cut close resulting in a 6-4 outcome benefitting LaSita. She would improve in the second set not dropping a single game, 6-0.
Sophomore
Sofie Brennan (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) would stamp the victory with one of her own, 6-2, 6-1 at the sixth spot.
Women's tennis takes on Bard College at the Hartwick Courts on September 19
th. First serve is set for 4 p.m.
