DELHI, NY – The Hartwick men's tennis team snapped a five-game skid with a 7-2 win over SUNY Delhi on Tuesday afternoon. Due to inclement weather, the Hawks' home match was moved to the Broncos' indoor facility. The win improves 'Wick's season clip to 2-8 while Delhi drops to 3-10.
John Talbot (Middlesex, NY/Marcus Whitman) and
Krishna Patel (Brunswick, ME/Pine Tree Academy) picked up the first point of the afternoon at the top flight by the largest margin of any other pair to get 'Wick on the board first, 8-2.
After the Broncos took third doubles by three and evened the match score, the Hawks'
Nick Adamou (New Milford, CT/New Milford) and
Ross Braue (Canastota, NY/Canastota) and the Broncos' Anthony Angioli and Masaya Tanabe traded points at No. 2 resulting in an 8-8 score. Following the initial draw, the visitors pulled away in the tiebreaker to put their team up one heading into the singles portion.
Talbot at the top flight (6-1, 6-0) and Patel at the second (6-3, 6-2) finished their respective matches on the brinks of one another not only to tie the match but put the Hawks up by one, 3-2.
Quinn McQuade (Oyster Bay, NY/Chaminade) added a point to Hartwick's win total in a 6-1, 6-4 victory at No. 6 singles. Braue followed that up at the fourth spot with a 6-2, 6-4 win of his own.
Both
Drew Tyrol (Old Lyme, CT/Lyme-Old Lyme) at No. 5 and Adamou at No. 3 played three sets each crediting a win to seal the Hawks' match victory. Tyrol bested his opponent, 6-4, 3-6, 10-6 before Adamou's 6-2, 6-7, 10-2 tally rounded out scoring at Delhi.
Tomorrow, the Hawks host Utica at Hartwick Courts at 4 p.m. for a CODE BLUE event.
